Former Genome Center CAO Ernie Hoftyzer's retirement is announced

Ernie Hoftyzer began his UC Davis career as a temporary staff member in the History Department, which happened to be his major at UC Davis. When the university transitioned to the DAFIS online accounting system in 1997, Hoftyzer’s career accelerated. He eventually became Chief Administrative Officer of the Institute of Transportation Studies in 2004, leading that unit for 13 years as its annual budget grew from $3 million to $20 million. In 2017, he moved to a similar position at the UC Davis Genome Center.

Capsule Captures First Look Inside Digestion in Healthy People

Using a specially designed capsule, researchers can now voyage through the digestive system, collecting new data about digestion and microorganisms. The work by a team including researchers at the University of California, Davis, Stanford University and Envivo Bio Inc., is published May 10 in papers in Nature and Nature Metabolism.

New Leaders in Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion

The Office for Diversity, Equity and Inclusion is delighted to announce the appointment of Mikael Villalobos, Ed.D., as Associate Vice Chancellor for the Office of Campus Community Relations (DEI/OCCR), effective immediately, and Luis Carvajal-Carmona, Ph.D., as Associate Vice Chancellor for the Office of Academic Diversity (DEI/OAD), effective March 1, 2023.

UC Davis Earns National Award for COVID-19 Response

The Association of Public and Land-grant Universities, or APLU, has honored the University of California, Davis, for its response through Healthy Davis Together to the coronavirus pandemic.

UC Davis joined one other institution, the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, as the inaugural winners of the APLU Research Response to a Community in Crisis Award, announced Thursday (July 1).
