The
Michelmore lab, led by Genome Center Director
Richard Michelmore, are part of a group that have been awarded a $4.5 million grant by the
National Institute of Food and Agriculture (part of the USDA) to help improve, and sustain, the production of lettuce. This five-year grant will enable researchers to use the latest genomics technologies to work with this important food crop and the project will be led by Professor Michelmore, who commented:
Current sequencing and genome editing technologies enable us to identify and use genes determining agriculturally important traits with unprecedented accuracy.
