Assistant Project Scientist: metabolomics, chemical biology
The Genome Center at the University of California, Davis invites applications from qualified candidates for an Assistant Project Scientist position.
Working for Professor Oliver Fiehn, the Assistant Project Scientist will lead the area of mammalian chemical biology research in the Fiehn Metabolomics laboratory. The appointee will participate in ongoing projects, design new studies and interpret data sets that are produced by mass spectrometry-based metabolomics methods in the West Coast Metabolomics Center. This includes fostering existing and developing new research collaborations in linking the chemical biology of mammalian systems with diseases, cellular states, aging and organismal development. The candidate will lead collaborative projects with external partners, including metabolomics data management, data analysis, interpretation and manuscript writing. The candidate is expected to design studies and initiate self-initiated research projects in the broad area of metabolomics research that may lead to new journal publications or grant applications.
Candidates should have a PhD degree in in Biochemistry, Physiology, Toxicology, Pharmacology, Analytical Chemistry, or equivalent job experience or training; experience in understanding biochemical pathways, metabolic regulation, metabolite transporters and cellular mechanisms; expertise in mammalian biochemistry, physiology or molecular biology; experience in writing scientific manuscripts and grant proposals; and experience in training or managing small teams of scientists or students.
