Assistant Project Scientist: metabolomics, analytical chemistry
The Genome Center at the University of California, Davis invites applications from qualified candidates for an Assistant Project Scientist position.
Working for Professor Oliver Fiehn, the Assistant Project Scientist will lead the area of analytical chemistry research in the Fiehn Metabolomics laboratory. The appointee will participate in ongoing projects, design new studies and perform compound identification in mass spectrometry-based metabolomics data sets. This includes fostering existing and developing new research collaborations by supporting metabolomics projects through advancements in chromatography-mass spectrometry based methods, taking responsibility to lead collaborative projects with external partners, including method optimizations, metabolomics data acquisition, data processing, compound identification, and manuscript writing. The candidate is expected to design studies and initiate self-initiated research projects in the broad area of metabolomics research that may lead to new journal publications or grant applications.
Candidates should have a PhD degree in Analytical Chemistry, Biochemistry, Physiology, Toxicology, Pharmacology, or equivalent job experience or training; expertise in high resolution mass spectrometry, liquid chromatography and related techniques; expertise in developing and optimizing metabolomic or lipidomic methods with respect to coverage, quantification and throughput; experience in using mass spectral, biochemical and chemical databases; experience in using cheminformatics tools, including tools for compound identification, MS/MS scoring, metabolomics data processing, data curation and validation; experience in writing scientific manuscripts and grant proposals; and experience in training or managing small teams of scientists or students.
