Recent publication: The alternative reality of plant mitochondrial DNA: One ring does not rule them all

A new publication by Kozik et al. in PLOS Genetics has illustrated that the mitochondrial genome of lettuce is fluid and dynamic, with multiple sequence arrangements. The authors point out that the misconception of a circular mitochondrial genome in plants, which is often described in textbooks, can lead to the misinterpretation of evolutionary relationships, synteny, and histories.
