The Genome Center at the University of California, Davis invites applications from qualified candidates for an Assistant/Associate Specialist position. The rank and step of this appointment will be determined based on the qualifications and experience of the successful candidate.
Working for Professor Luis Carvajal-Carmona, this position will be involved in the establishment and characterization of minority patient-derived cancer models to elucidate clinically relevant molecular subtypes, drug targets and biomarkers for improved cancer treatment and precision medicine, with the ultimate goal of addressing cancer health disparities. The candidate will specifically participate in establishing, maintaining and characterizing 2D and 3D cell cultures from human tumor biopsies and subsequent patient-derived xenografts (PDXs).
Candidates should have a Baccalaureate degree and at least three years of experience in Genetics, Molecular Biology or related field; experience in extraction, purification and manipulation of nucleic acids from bacteria and mammalian cells; competence in basic bioinformatics tasks, such as sequence analysis, primer design for PCR and gene assembly; experience in PCR and plasmid-based manipulations for gene and vector assembly; experience in mRNA isolation, characterization and expression analysis; experience in protein characterization, such as PAGE and western blot; experience in microscopy; knowledge of Next Generation Sequencing (NGS) methods; excellent quantitative skills; and excellent written and verbal communication skills
