Outreach Activities for 2015–2016 School Year
The Integrative Genetics and Genomics (IGG) graduate group undertake a variety of outreach activities, some of which are sponsored by the Genome Center. This page will highlight some of the recent events that the IGG group have organized. For all events, reptiles were supplied courtesy of Peter Pied Python are plants were kindly donated from the UC Davis Botanical Conservatory.
Sept 19th: Davis Senior Center – Science vs Fiction Event
IGG students discussed the real science that Science Fiction predicted as well as the fiction in popular ‘science’ movies. We reached ~50 seniors!
Sept 21st: Science in the Siskiyous
IGG students talked about science, STEM careers, college, and their research with Dunsmuir Elementary (grades K-8th) and Dunsmuir High School (9-12th grades). We reached every student!
Oct 24th: Bay Areas Science Festival – Cal State East Bay
IGG Students had a booth show casing mutants and how they can be more or less fit for their environments. We interacted with ~1500 people of all ages!
Nov 7th: Bay Areas Science Festival – AT&T Park
IGG students discussed mutations in DNA and how they can be good, bad, or neutral.
