Genome Center scientists sequence genomes of 59 salt-loving organisms to help our understanding of osmoadaptation
A new paper published today in PLOS Genetics showcases the work of many people from the Genome Center (names in bold below indicate Genome Center personnel):

This work involved sequencing the genomes of 59 archaeal species which are 'experts' in osmoadapation (the ability to adjust to changing osmotic conditions). Analysis of the genomes from these extreme halophile species has shed light on how such species rapidly adapt to environmental fluxes. Much of this work occurred as a collaboration between the labs of Genome Center faculty Marc Facciotti and Jonathan Eisen.
